A member of the Osun State House of Assembly representing Obokun State constituency, Honourable Adeyemi Irekandu on Saturday distributed equipment for beneficiaries of his skills empowerment programme.
Irekandu also offered grants to the constituents to start up small scale businesses. This, he said was to ameliorate the ugly effects occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic to their economy.
Over 100 people benefited from the first phase of the empowerment programme.
He expressed worry at the poverty index which is said is increasing while the middle class are gradually being weakened more financially.
The lawmaker said he has pledged to serve and stand by the people of Obokun State constituency and has prioritised jmpactful motions, bills, and continuous welfare packages for the youths, women and the aged.
Irekandu said he forwarded to the Assembly for economic resuscitation owing to the pandemic.
He said he has been supporting traders, farmers and young people who have passed through the apprenticeship stage.
“My practical contribution is to resuscitate the economy and uplifting my people from extreme poverty./The first phase of the empowerment include grants for small scale traders, Aluminium Cutting Machines to Start-ups, Grinding Machines, Sewing Machines.
“Others are, Hair Dryers, Generators
farming chemicals for varieties of crops, farming equipment among others,” he said
He said he would not relent in contributing his quota to the growth and development of his constituency and the State at large.
He however advised the state government to invest more in the people especially during this pandemic era.
