No fewer than eleven (11) persons have been sent to be cooling their legs at the Ilesa correctional centre over their involvement in burning of Edunabon Palace in Osun in struggle for kingship title.
An embattled kingmaker in the twin, Chief Olatidoye Oyedokun, and 10 others were on Monday remanded in prison by Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly burning the palace of the Salu of Edunabon.
Oyedokun was arraigned before the court alongside the Osolo of Edunabon, Chief Odebode Akande, Gbenga Olasunbo, Oladeji Yunusa, Abiodun Ogunwede, Ige Lawrence, Emmanuel Adisa, Babalola Bisi, Bello Olalekan, Ramoni Oyetoro and Adegbami Kehinde.
They were arraigned on 51 counts bordering on arson and disruption of the peace of the town.
The palace was razed on December 19, 2018, following the struggle for the throne.
The prosecuting counsel, Dele Akintayo, said the accused on December 19, 2018 conducted themselves in a manner that caused a breach of the peace at the palace of Salu of Edunabon.
He alleged that the accused also injured the Salu of Edunabon, Oba Olatunde Oladepo, and other people in the town.
Counsel for the oba, Chief Abdul-Fatai Abdul-Salaam, said the accused engaged in violent conduct and demanded justice on behalf of the victims.
According to him, the appointment of Oba Oladepo was approved by the state government, adding that due process was followed.
But the accused pleaded not guilty.
Susan Olubunmi, who represented the accused, pleaded with court to grant them bail.
In her ruling, Magistrate Riskat Olayemi declined the bail application and remanded the accused in Ilesha Correction Centre.
She then adjourned the case till November 14, 2019.
