Following the case of alleged election malpractices during Osun governorship election, which made a onetime governorship candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke to file a suit against his counterpart, Governor Gboyega Oyetola at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, the court has therefore chose next Friday, 22nd March, 2019, for the final judgment of the case.
Senator Adeleke had approached the tribunal headed by Justice T.A Igoche, to nullify the victory of Governor Gboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and declare him the winner of the poll because he polled the highest number of lawful votes cast and met other requirements of the law.
Oyetola, the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission, are the respondents in the 593-page petition with file EPT/OS/Gov/1/2018.
Adeleke had polled the highest number of votes in the first ballot held on September 22, 2018, and the Returning Officer, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, declared the election inconclusive because the number of registered voters in the seven polling units where elections were cancelled was higher than 353 votes with which Adekeke led the runner-up.
Oyetola eventually polled a total number of 255,505 votes to defeat Adeleke who scored 255,023 at the end of the rerun election held in seven units in Orolu, Osogbo, Ife North and Ife South Local Government Areas.
