A PDP House of Representatives candidate elect for Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Barr. Bamidele Salam has described the judgment of the Osun Election Petition Tribunal as a victory for democracy.
The judgment declared Sen. Ademola Adeleke of the PDP as the authentic winner of the September 22 Governorship election in Osun State.
Speaking in a press release made available to newsmen by his media aide, Salam stated that the tribunal has helped to safeguard the true definition of democracy.
According to him, “it was shameful that a few antidemocratic elements attempted to scuttle the mandate freely given to the PDP and Sen. Adeleke at the Governorship poll last year. Their desperate moves to bend the will of the people made them almost turn the State into a war zone.”
“With this judgment, the tribunal, a critical arm of the judiciary, has restored the hopes of the common man in the rule of law. The tribunal has by this judgment given our democracy a new lifeline and saved it from the fangs of desperate godfathers and their godchildren”, he stated.
Reacting to the APC’s rejection of the tribunal judgment, Salam stated that ” the APC has the right within the provisions of the law to appeal the judgment and go as far as the Supreme Court. However, since the judgment of the tribunal is premised on legality and dictates of the law, we are certain the people’s mandate freely given to Ademola Adeleke and affirmed by the Tribunal will be protected.”
Concluding, the former LG Chairman of Egbedore Local Government stated that “the light of good governance will definitely shine again in Osun and our people will be set free from the oppression of the Lagos invaders. We are confident and we depend only on God.”
