A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC from Ayedaade Local Government Area in Osun State, Hon. (Mrs) Sola Ogunfolaju has said the agitation for zoning of the slot of the September 22 governorship election in the state to Osun West is borne out of selfish interest of some few selected politicians.
She said the development is against the constitution of the ruling party arguing that “it is anti-people and borne out of selfish desire by few selected politicians for personal interests.”
Ogunfolaju, a former council chairman of Ayedaade South LCDA disclosed this at a well-attended sensitization rally organised by APC chieftains at Orile Owu on Sunday.
The ex-council chairman said the rally was part of political strategy and preparation to welcome a leading APC gubernatorial aspirant, Gboyega Oyetola to Saint Paul primary school, Gbongan on his consultation tour to all local government in the state.
Oyetola, the Chief of Staff to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, at the rally, addressed members of the party and intimated them of his plans and policies if elected to succeed his boss.
Speaking, Ogunfolaju said their resort to support Oyetola is predetermined by his sterling qualities and outstanding performance in the display of effective capacity, both mentally and administratively as a good manager of men and resources in the last eight years in his present position.
She said, “we have seen clearly that he (Oyetola) has the wherewithal to continue and consolidate on the indelible legacies initiated by the Aregbesola administration.
“Interestingly, within our local government is the newly constructed AbdulKareem Adebisi Akande trumpet bridge which will put a permanent end to the serial loss of innocent lives on the Gbongan junction of the Ibadan/Ife expressway, it was during Aregbesola`s time that we have state-of-the-art model schools in Gbongan and Ode Omu, construction of over 10kilometres township and rural road projects, and creation of additional local government, Ayedaade South LCDA which has brought government closer to the people at the rural communities.”
“Our people are not ingrates, and our primary concern is finding a worthy successor for Aregbesola, which we have found in Oyetola,” she stressed.
While speaking on the agitation for zoning, she recalled all the past governorship elections in the state since creation and concluded that there was never a time where people sat down to zone the exalted seat of the governor to a particular part of the state.
“Never! It has always been very competitive and keenly contested for, people can check the records. Nobody or party has ever prevented any zone from participating, every politics is local, and my advice for all aspirants is to subject themselves to the dictates of the leadership of the party and her constitution, which provides for free and credible primaries for all aspirants, and support whoever emerges as the candidate on the July 7th primary election.”
