Only Eligible Voters Are Entitle To Enter Polling Unit Tomorrow – Police Warn
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Operations (DOPS), JOSHAK HABILA has warned those who are not eligible to participate in tomorrow governorship Re-run election in the state to stay away from pooling unit.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police from police headquarters, Abuja while briefing the press on Wednesday only eligible voters with their permanent voters card and those with due accreditation would be allowed to come near the pooling unit.
It will be recalled that the September 22 governorship election held on Saturday where the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party , (PDP) Senator Ademola Adeleke scored a total votes of 254,698 as against APC candidate, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola with total votes of 254,345 was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission of which Thursday was announce for Rerun in seven polling unit where the votes cancelled.
HABILA said the force has deployed security personnel and law enforcement agencies to each unit where re run wild be held tomorrow to maintain law and order and protect the lives and property of Osun and would not permit the breakdown of law and order.
He therefore warned those preparing to cause violence at the polling units to stay away or be ready to bear consequences of their action design to undermine Democratic process.
” As you are all aware, governorship election was held throughout Osun State on Saturday 22nd of September, 2018. It was free, fair and peaceful, with very few incidents of breach of peace and threat to life and property.
”We have an intelligence report that, there is a grand plan to turn the election gruesomely violent and deadly by arming thugs to unleash mayhem at polling centers”
”Those of them preparing for “fire for fire” must be ready to bear the consequences of their actions which designed to undermine this particular democratic process. It should be noted that the Nigeria Police Force will remain proactive and would not rest it oars in its task to decode the identities of those democratic enemies”
Residents are requested to be law abiding and go about their lawful duties without fear and with the full assurance of the protection of law abiding citizens and voters who are out there to exercises their franchise.
The Police and other law enforcement agencies have been deployed to maintain law and order and protect lives and property of the residents in Osun.
In the areas where re-run election is to be held, only eligible voters with their voting cards and other personnel with due accreditation would be allowed to come near the polling units.
He urged residents of Osun to report all suspicious activities such as solicitation for votes, buying of Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) and any plan to rig or disrupt the election to the Nigerian Police.
Troublemakers and other interlopers are warned to keep away from the polling units and indeed from any part of the state. The police and other security agencies will leave no stone unturned to protect lives and property and maintain peace.
