Nigerian Parents Urged To Upgrade The Wards On Self Defence Skills

Nigerian parents in the State of Osun have been charged to enroll their children, particularly the female children for self defence education, such as Taekwondo to forestall potential assault.

The Special Adviser to State of Osun Governor on Public Service Productivity and Due Process, Honorable Ademola Adeyinka made this known in his speech as Chairman of the occasion of State of Osun Annual Taekwondo Grading, held at Osogbo city stadium.

Honorable Adeyinka, who expressed surprise that Taekwondo Association exist in Osun, urged parents to equip their wards with necessary protection skills such as Taekwondo, and he also registered his membership and pledged his commitment to the association, and he advised the Taekwondo promising players in the state to work towards Olympic competition.

In her welcome address, the Chairperson of the occasion, Mrs. Abibat Bashiru emphasized that the time has come for the society to be aware of self defence skills available through Taekwondo comprehensive training, and she described Taekwondo as martial art that teaches physical fighting skills as well as develop sound body and mind.

Mrs. Bashiru as example narrated with nostalgia, a recent post on Facebook on how to rape a girl by a pervert, and she affirmed that such assault can be avoided when our children have relevant skills such as Taekwondo to protect themselves from evil occurrence.

Stating that Taekwondo is expanding in the State of Osun, with some of its players in local governments in the state as well as Osun State University and Obafemi Awolowo University, she proudly reeled out that since year 2016, State of Osun has set blazing record by having its distinguished players emerge in national and international competitions, where they won seven gold, thirteen silver and thirteen bronze.

Mrs. Bashiru further stated that Taekwondo in the State of Osun is presently facing challenges as it lacks basic equipments needed for protection during training and competition, and that the team that emerged with trophies at the just concluded national youth games are expectants of their prizes promised by the government.

She used the medium to call on the support of the Governor State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and other stakeholders to ensure that Taekwondo in the State of Osun is supported and taken to enviable height nationally and internationally.

Highlight of the Taekwondo Annual Grading Ceremony was the decoration of the Special Adviser to State of Osun Governor on Public Service Productivity and Due Process, Honorable Ademola Adeyinka, and Taekwondo Demonstrations and Grading by State of Osun Taekwondo team and Athletes.
