A Non Governmental Organisation, Crownrise Development Initiative (CDI) has stormed streets and market places in Osogbo, capital of Osun state to sensitise and educate people on the need to abide by all laid down safety measures by appropriate authorities to prevent contracting the deadly Corona virus pandemic.
CDI also distributed about 3,000 facemasks to residents of the state.
During their orientation programme held recently, the NGO discovered that many residents of the state are yet to adapt to the new order the disease has caused.
Speaking, Mr Adetunji Ajala, the Executive Director of CDI, a youth enthusiast and community mobiliser, said “the novel corona virus (Covid 19) has caused a major shift and brings a new normal to people across the world, but our adaptability to the new normal is one of the headaches many are facing.”
According to the passionate youth developer, the NGO ensures protection of lives of people and also see to it that they live healthily.
He said CDI sampled the opinion of people about the use of facemasks and why it is difficult for them to comply with the the safety protocol, most especially at the market spaces.
Ajala, the ONE Ambassador said “when we spoke with many residents, they complained that the facemasks are making breathing unbearable for them and that most of the produced facemasks affect their ears. Others said they don’t have money to buy the sophisticated one they can wear, even at that, there is need to have like 3 to 5 facemasks that can be used interchangeably.
“Seeing the level of challenges and poverty in the community, CDI moved to major market to distribute 3,000 facemasks to market women, this, we were able to do through the support of individual who believe in the organization.
“It was so disheartening that many don’t have facemasks they are using and don’t really know the essence of wearing the facemask. Some see it as fashion, why some comply to the use because government has given the directive.
“CDI believes having a safe environment should be the responsibility of everyone. This first phase of sensitization and distribution of facemask has opened our eyes that more still need to be done to make our society safe,” Ajala, who is committed to building strong institution and ending extreme poverty in the society said.
