NANS Crisis Deepens As Factional National Excos Emerge

‘I Will Treat Them In The Language They Understand’ – Asefon Reacts

The crisis rocking the leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) deepened on Sunday following the emergence of factional national executives six months after the National convention that was in Abuja in December, 2020.

During the National convention that was held at the Old Parade Ground  in Abuja on 4th December, 2020, Comrade Sunday Asefon emerged as the National President having gotten 155 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Olushola Oladoja who scored 100 votes.

Others executives were subsequently elected into their different offices.

However, in what appeared to be disunity among the leaders of NANS, another sect among them elected factional executives in a national convention held between 24th -27th June, 2021.

AMILOADED gathered that the impeached former NANS President, Comrade Bamidele Danielson was reportedly to have declared the factional convention opened.

AMILOADED recalls that Bamidele had earlier been impeached by the national student’s legislative body over his failure to clear himself after a committee was set up to look into allegations which indicted him of misappropriation and diversion of students Covid-19 Palliatives, fraudulently concealing information relevant to help the growth of the organization and development of the country.

He was also found guilty of abusing his office by doing arbitrary and lawful acts which are prejudicial to the rights of other members of the Association, all in violation of the code of conduct of the body.

He was replaced with Comrade Chidi Ilogede, who served as the vice president of the Association before he’s sworn in as the new president.

Meanwhile, during the factional convention, Comrade Abdulmajeed Oyeniyi, emerged as National President, Comrade Paul Bidas Tenti, emerged as Vice President, National Affairs, Comrade Helen Efenji, emerged as Vice President, Special Duties, Comrade Isangobong Eyibio, emerged as PRO and Comrade Jamiu Abdullahi, emerged as Deputy Senate President.

Speaking with our correspondent in a telephone interview, the NANS National President Comrade Sunday Asefon said: “I am aware of the fractional executives. I will treat them in the language they understand.”

He said: “It remains pertinent I make this public clarification that NANS is not holding any national convention to Elect new executive, as the public is aware that our leadership came on board trough a popular electioneering process in a national convention held at Old parade ground Abuja on 4th December, 2020.

“As we are just six month into our administration of 1 year academic calender, it therefore remain a mere attempt to distract our leadership by some unscrupulous elements who feed fat on crisis and disunity in our revered association.

‘The rumoured self declaration of some individuals by immediate past impeached president of NANS who was removed from office over a fraud and divertion of student project fund will be decisively address by our leadership.

“It took the effort of incumbent leadership and past leaders to prevail on the immediate past executive council members led by Comr ilogebe Chidi and Comr Abubakar Gambo Mohammed president and senate President respectively including the facilitator of NANS Glo SIM card project Amb Salahudeen A Lukman to withdraw case of fraud and forgery againt the impeached president Danielson Bamidele at EFCC and Police IGP Monitoring unit, all we did to sort soft landing for embattled impeached President of NANS yet he trurn around to cause confusion for our dear association.

“We assure the public that we shall speak to him and his team shameless distractors in the language they understand.”
