The Osun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party has advised Governor Gboyega Oyetola to buckle up, feign competence and demonstrate some seriousness in basic governance undertakings in order to curb increasingly elusive popularity for his stagnant government in the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by Alhaji Y.K Idowu, the Osun PDP Deputy Publicity Secretary on Wednesday made available to AMILOADED.
In the statement, the PDP spokesman said governance in the state has turned on the head that routine payment of statutory entitlements of workers has become a ground breaking achievement worthy of deafening drumming sponsored again by public funds.
“Celebrating a butchered thirty thousand minimum wage for insignificant number of workers on levels 1-6, considering the prevailing hyper-inflation on staple commodities alone is wicked, crude and out rightly irresponsible,” Idowu stated.
Idowu noted that such statutory obligations would have been dispatched with administrative circular without much ado because the wage adjustments, even it was total, was non-negotiable right of the workers who are already four times overdue for the present shameful bargain.
“Again, consequential adjustments of mere 5% of basic salaries of upper scale workers of level 7 and above with those in the medical employ of the State earning a negligible 2.5% adjustments on their basic salary at this time of our national life was a modern enslavement taken too far,” Alhaji Idowu stated.
PDP warned the leadership of the National Labour Unions in the state to be alert to their responsibility as representatives of public work force and protect interest of their colleagues in the state.
“The party enjoined Com. Adekomi-led NLC in particular to put all facets of interest in the labour movement into appropriate consideration whenever he is caught in the web of government overtures,” PDP further wrote.
The Spokesperson said the call is necessary as these shades of civil servants are major propellers of a PAYE based economy like that of Osun State.
