As the world transits to technology and innovation economy, a university scholar, Professor Mufutaudeen Atayese, has recommended the formation of information, communication, and technology club for public secondary schools of Osun State.
The professor of the Department of Plant Nutrition, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, area of Ogun State, gave the recommendation on Saturday while delivering a lecture at the first edition of Founders’ Day and Alumni Reunion of Modakeke Islamic Grammar School Old Students Association held at the premises of the school along Ondo road, Modakeke area of Osun State.
The University don said the establishment of the ICT clubs in secondary schools became important in recent times as a result of a total turnaround in the global economy which is technology and innovation-driven hence the need to expose students to the technology economy to prepare and equip them with rights skills and knowledge well ahead at a younger age and also to leverage on those facilities that would be provided at the club to achieve their full potential.
Atadese appealed to parents to be wary of forcing a particular course of study on their children as he said such old practices are counterproductive and critically undermine the skills and natural ability of their children.
He encouraged the pupils at the event to critically look inward and assess their natural ability and skills which they can convert into money-making ventures particularly when the whole world could be connected to within the blink of an eye.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Alumni body of the school, Mr. Lawal Iyanda, commended the collaborative efforts of the planning committee and the financial backing of several Alumni who he said contributed selflessly to ensure that the event came to reality.
He said the reunion was organised to create awareness of the existence of the association and to put a platform for brainstorming on a road map towards a grand golden jubilee celebration (1974-2024) of their Alma mater in 2024.
It was a nostalgic feeling for many of the Alumni who reconnected with their colleagues of many decades while old memories were endlessly shared.
The event had in attendance several individuals from all walks of life including founding staff members of the school among other dignitaries.
The establishment of Modakeke Islamic Grammar school was said to have been conceived in 1972 by Modakeke Muslim Community as part of their effort to encourage enrolment of Muslim children for balanced education into western schools with the integration of Islamic education for the proper moral upbringing and spiritual upliftment.
The duo of late Alhaji Adefajo and late Alhaji Yaya Adebiyi served as the chairman and secretary respectively in the committee that founded Modakeke Islamic Grammar School. The approval for the establishment of the school was signed by the then Oyo state Government in 1974. The school took off at Modakeke central mosque, Itamerin, and later moved to the present site with a block of 4 classrooms and a detached office.
