So far, the only female governorshop aspirant ahead of the September 22 election in Osun state has emerged.
She is Mercy Ayodele from the platform of Restoration Party (RP).
Mrs. Ayodele who has picked interest form to contest the election promised to end the reign of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and stop the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from returning to power.
While addressing mammoth of supporters and leaders of the party shortly after picking the form at the state secretariat of the party at Ogo Oluwa Area, Osogbo, she urged voters to reject the two leading parties in the state, arguing that the parties had failed to use power to better the lot of the Osun people.
Ayodele, who described self as a technocrat in politics, however implored members of the party to embark on massive mobilization, of especially women and youths, adding that RP offers hope of improving standard of living of residents of the state.
Reeling out her manifestos, Ayodele said workers’ welfare, youth empowerment, economic and rural development, perfect healthcare system and free education would be given top priority.
Ayodele said: “If elected governor, I plan to propose new legislation that will see to the workers’ welfare across the state, especially public/civil servants. This is not only to meet the needs to today, but to encourage developing minds for the future.
“Nigerian youths are tired of APC and PDP, for their lies and deciets over the years. Therefore, our youth must arise and shine -that is my mandate. I will empower them for small scale enterprise, making them useful to themselves, the state and Nigeria at large.
“Rural development is on the minds of most people, particularly with regard to the downtown politicians of APC and PDP. For many years, economic prosperity and agriculture has been neglected by the current government leaders, and I plan to change all of that.
“On perfect healthcare system, my administration shall drastically reduce the number of people inflicted with cholera, malaria and other preventable diseases plaguing our people. Therefore, we shall cooperate and collaborate will all local and international intervention agencies with similar aspiration to achieve global basic perfect healthcare standard for our people.
“There has been decadence in the education system of this state which the past government has shown little or no concern about. This is my stake. Education is the birthright of every child in Osun state irrespective of your status and as such, must be given adequate attention because our children are the leaders of tomorrow,” Ayodele concluded.
In his remarks, the state chairman of Restoration Party, Prophet Tosin Odeyemi, demanded hardwork from members of the party, directing them to commence house to house mobilization for RP.
He implored people of the state to give RP a chance to govern them, saying the state seems to have seen the best and worst of both APC and PDP in the last 16 years.
