Identified as Taiwo Adegboye, from Ikirun in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State, met his untimely death on Friday after the car he was driving ran into, and submerged by flood in Esa Odo, area of State.
However, It was not immediately clear how the 52 years old Adegboye, drove into the flooded area of the Esa Odo/Ilare Road.
Sources in Esa Odo told our correspondent that the deceased was travelling in his Volkswagen Jetta car and must have driven into the flooded area of the road caused by a dam that spilled its content on Friday.
Someone who volunteered an interview with our correspondent Alhaji Otegbeye, disclosed that no one knew that a vehicle was aware when the incident occurred, until Sunday when local divers discovered it.
Otegbeye stated, “We did not know that anyone or a vehicle was in the water. A dam here was filled up and it spilled water on the road. The water volume was so huge that no one could pass through it.
“It was on Sunday that some local divers discovered the vehicle and informed us. The family of the deceased had been contacted and the corpse will be buried near the dam as the custom demands.”
When contacted, the Administrative Officer, Osun State Fire Service, Fatai Aremu, said the victim’s body and the vehicle had been recovered from the scene.
The lawmaker representing the Obokun State Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Adewumi Adeyemi, who was at the scene of the incident, said, “With the efforts of the fire service men, local divers and community members, the car was brought out of the river around 3.15pm, with the dead body inside.”
He urged the National Emergency Management Agency and the Osun State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials for residents affected by flood across the local government area.
