Let’s Make ‘Adire’ A Must-Wear, Oyetola’s Wife Urges State Executive Council As She Declares Open Osun International Fashion Week

The wife of the Osun State Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola, has urged the members of the Osun State Executive Council to make local clothing, ‘Adire’, a must-wear dress in the state, AMILOADED reports.

The Osun First Lady made the call while speaking at the opening ceremony of the Osun International Fashion Week (OSIFAW) in Osogbo, the state capital on Thursday.

Mrs. Oyetola, who demanded that the members of the State Executive Council adopt a policy to make Adire a must-wear in various government offices, at least once in a week, charged political office holders to consider the idea of having a common market dedicated for the sales of Adire and ally products.

She said, “I would like to solicit that members of the State Executive Council adopt a policy which would make Adire a must-wear, at least one day in a week, in the various offices of government.

“We may also consider the idea of having a common market dedicated strictly to the sales of Adire and ally products. These will further enhance the industry. It would serve as a great economic motivation for product improvement. The result will be a great positive boost to the living standard of the families that engage in Adire production, and the processing into various styles of wears.

“Once the economy of our homes get enhanced, we shall be able to change some behavior tendencies that cause tension, crisis and violence in our communities. This should be a to-do measure for all of us,” the wife of the governor stated.

Mrs. Oyetola, while describing the Fashion Week as an important event which has long been overdue, stated that the Fashion Week marked the “beginning of a great signature event which will make Osun to be well known in the Arts, Culture and Tourism world”.

The Osun First Lady added, “This maiden edition of the Osun International Fashion Week (OSIFAW) has been dedicated to the promotion of Adire, a local textile industry which is very strong in the state.

“I thank the organisers of this Week for dedicating this to the Adire Industry. It reflects the fact that we are now beginning to leverage on indigenous resources to grow our revenue base and boost the economy of our state.

“The reality of today demands that we begin to tap into indigenous resources to raise the necessary fund for development. There is no better source than the renewable fund that our Arts, Culture and Tourism resources promise. Fashion is a critical component of the Tourism Industry and I commend you for this Week,” Mrs. Oyetola said.
