Commercial Motorcyclists popularly known as “Okada Riders” have took to the street of Osogbo to protest alleged extortion by the state government.
The Okada were said to have launched to the street to protest the #200 ticket fee imposed on them by the state government.
Amiloaded reporter who was at the popular Olaiya junction around 11:20am this morning where the protest was held said the protesters were chanting solidarity songs imploring the government to withdraw actions on the imposed ticket fee.
Our correspondent gathered that the ticket fee is part of the state government’s efforts to boost the internal revenue generation in the state.
Speaking to our reporter, The protesting Okada riders said the daily charges are too much as their association also give out N50 ticket on daily bases, which if the newly introduced #200 ticket fee is accepted, it will drastically affect their daily income.
One of the leaders of the Okada riders association told our correspondent that government had announced the collection before its commencement saying Okada riders in the state were not ready to assist the government in revenue generation.
One of the protesters said there is economic hardship in the state and the new ticket fee is too much for them to afford.
The protesters called for the scrapping of the ticket fee and tasked the state government on the rise in the security challenges that have been ravaging the state.
All efforts to speak with the state goverment as at the time of filling this report prove abortive
