Members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun state  on Thursday embarked on a protest against the Alleged attack on the Ekiti State Governor,  Dr.  Ayodele Fayose by some Policemen.
In their numbers, the party members expressed displeasure over the manner Fayose was allegedly teargarssed to tears by the policemen.
The protesters demonstrated to the Osun State police headquarter in Osogbo against what they termed “unlawful action of Nigerian police to Ekiti State governor, Dr Peter Ayodele Fayose on Wednesday. “
The party under the leadership of Hon. Olasoji Adagunodo condemned the action in its totality and warned Nigerian security agencies under President Muhammad Buhari to take caution in order not to truncate the nation’s Democracy.
The party in a statement signed and issued by it’s Head of Media, Bamidele Salami described the attack as ill-treatment and harassment of the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and other thousands of Ekiti citizens.
The protest led by the State Chairman Hon. Soji Adagunodo and the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Prince Diran Odeyemi took hundreds of party members to the Osun state Command of the Nigeria Police Force where a letter was delivered to the Commissioner of Police Mr Adeoye Olafimihan for onward transmission to the InspectorGeneral of Police.
Speaking at the State Police Command, Hon Adagunodo described the treatment meted out to the Ekiti State Governor by the Police as crude, barbaric and highly condemnable.
He attributed the Ekiti police action to the desperation of the All Progressive Congress to win the forthcoming governorship election in spite of its unpopularity in the State.
Adagunodo warned President Muhammadu Buhari against approving or condoning acts that could truncate democracy in Nigeria.
” This was the same democracy that the PDP nurtured in 16 years. Only 3 years of the APC is wiping off the gains of those years. Even in the height of provocation when APC sponsored physical attacks against the former President Goodluck Jonathan, he never unleashed this degree of violence on the opposition. President Buhari should learn to be a Stateman in a time like this”, Adagunodo said.
Responding, the State Police Commissioner promised to deliver the letter to the Inspector General of Police.
He commended the Osun chapter of the PDP for conducting its protest in a peaceful manner and urged politicians generally to exhibit more maturity in their conduct.
