Ahead of the July 22 Local Government Chairmanship election in Lagos, youths in Agege Local Government Area of the state have urged the various political parties to present candidates capable of delivering the dividends of democracy in the area.
Speaking at a recently concluded entrepreneurship workshop organized for youths in Orile-Agege Local Development Council, the Coordinator of the National Youth Council, Orile-Agege LCDA chapter, Amosu Kazeem Oluwatomi, admonished the different parties to present candidates with quality developmental manifestos.
Amosu emphasised that gone are the days when half-baked candidates are presented by political parties to vie for Chairmanship position in the local government area.
“The realities and challenges of governance at the grassroots today, demands for a result-oriented and quality leadership” said, Amosu.
“Preparations are therefore in the pipeline to organize an election debate for candidates vying for chairmanship position in the area” “This will enable chairmanship candidates to inform the residents about their plans and programs for the area and also provide the electorates avenue to make informed decisions on who to vote for at the coming elections”.
According to Amosu, the reasons for this idea is to test the preparedness of the candidates ahead of the election and also give Orile-Agege youths chance to learn the basics of political leadership.
While further enjoining the youths to actively participate in politics by vying for public offices rather than being used as political thugs during elections, Amosu however urged the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to conduct free, fair and credible election in the coming Local Government Chairmanship elections in the state.
