Inspirational Singer and talented instrumentalist, Akin Akinola and talented has released a brand new single titled: “Su re fun mi” (Bless Me).
The single is rendered in a mix of Yoruba and English languages. Yoruba is a prayer as much as it is a song. It’s a call for divine help and lifting as well a declaration of victory over all forms of challenges and barriers.
This soulful tune will resonate with everyone hoping for peace, favour and enlargement in all areas of life – pretty much, everyone.
About Akin Akinola:
Akin Akinola’s foray into music and entertainment started from his nursery school in Osogbo (Western Nigeria) where, from the tender age of four, he began participating in a series of musical and dramatic performances which formed part of year-end festivities.
As a member of the children choir of his local church assembly, he had the benefit of music education and started learning to play the piano. Also, he participated actively in church plays – mostly re-enactments of famous bible stories. All through his adolescent life, school and church gave him the platform to groom and relish his twin passion of music and drama.
He got his first shot at showmanship as an undergraduate at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where under the stage name “Abefe” and with a rag-tag team of music loving friends, he performed several shows and garnered considerable exposure on campus.
While at Ife, a chance encounter with the legendary Jimi Solanke proved a crucial turning point in his quest for artistic expression. Not only did he get a brief stint as a member of Jimi’s band and theatre group, he had invaluable mentorship and tutelage from one of Africa’s greatest entertainers – a relationship he treasures till this day.
At different times, Akin has been music director for his local assembly, “community drama” coordinator, church keyboardist, compere, events planner, etc.
He has performed at several events including five editions of the acclaimed EniObanke Music Festival (2010-14), touring and sharing the stage with legends – Chris Ajilo, Jimi Solanke, Orlando Julius “OJ” Ekemode, Beautiful Nubia, Yinka Davies, to mention a few. He is regularly at the Freedom Park in Lagos Island rocking the great highlife tunes alongside Edaoto, Seun Olota and friends.
Akin trained as a lawyer. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar and currently works as in-house counsel for company in Lagos.
