Insecurity: Police, Army, DSS, Others Meet Gov. Oyetola

 

The security agencies which comprises of the operatives of the Police, Army, Air Force, Department of State Security (DSS), The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Monday met with the Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola to develop a strategy on reported infiltration of the state by herdsmen, bandits, kidnappers, Cultism, communal clashes, armed robbery, and other security matters.

Part of the reasons for Monday’s meeting between the Osun State government and security agencies were security concerns caused by artisanal miners, community clashes, armed robberies, the proliferation of arms and ammunition, the increase in accident cases, the union crisis and schools protection.

The security Council meeting which was chaired by Governor Oyetola took place at Government House, Oke-Fia, Osogbo, under the chairmanship of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

Others present at the meeting are: Deputy Governor Benedit Olugboyega Alabi, Secretary of State Government, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, some members of the executive cabinet, special advisers and all duty commanders attached to Osun State.

 

In a statement signed by the spokesperson for the police in Osun, SP Yemisi Opalola, the security issues affecting the state were discussed and solutions to address them were considered during the the meeting of the Security Council.

As a result, the police, as the lead agency for internal security, and all other heads of security agencies have established security mechanisms to put an end to criminal activity in the state.

It was revealed in the statement that Oyetola promised to help provide a better working environment for officers to put in the maximum effort.

The Police Commissioner therefore urged the good citizens of the state to support, collaborate and cooperate with the state government, police and other security agencies to ensure state security.

Meanwhile, over the past two months, Osun State has witnessed a series of kidnappings, sectarian activity and more.

The latest kidnapping in Osun state on Saturday evening, in which passengers on the Ibadan / Akure highway through Egbu Village Ikire, were violently kidnapped by criminals in Wasinmi, continued to spark backlash among residents. .

Police said those abducted had been rescued, adding that security guards were on the trail of the kidnappers.

Meanwhile, in early February, six passengers and the driver of a Toyota Sienna bus were kidnapped along the Ilesa-Akure highway.

The kidnappers freed three of them and sent them to inform the public of their kidnapping before the others were later released after huge sums were reportedly paid in ransom.

Also earlier this year, three Chinese expatriates were kidnapped from the Ilesa mining site in the Osun East Senate District. They regained their freedom a week later after a foreign currency ransom allegedly exchanged hands.
