Ikeja, Eti-Osa Top Coronavirus Cases In Lagos

 

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the highest coronavirus cases in the state were recorded in Ikeja and Eti-Osa Local Government Areas.

He said this during a live broadcast at the State House, Marina, on Friday evening.

“If you don’t have any need to go outside, please stay inside. That’s rule number one. In Lagos, the local governments with the highest number of infections are Eti-Osa and Ikeja,” he said.

Earlier, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said up to 39,000 cases of coronavirus may be witnessed in the case.

Abayomi at a briefing on Friday said, “Our mathematical modelling shows that the worst-case scenario is that we may see up to 39,000 cases in Lagos, but if everyone practises good social distancing, the figure will be limited to 13,000.”

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Thursday said the cases of the coronavirus in the country had increased to 65 – three have been discharged and one dead.

Currently, the majority of cases were imported to the country from high-risk nations such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and other European countries.

Among top officials who have tested positive are the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, and the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

The disease has spread to eight states and the Federal Capital Territory. There are 44 cases in Lagos; 12 in the Federal Capital Territory; Ogun State, three; Ekiti State, one; Bauchi State, two; Oyo State, one; Edo State, one; Osun State, one and Rivers State, one.
