A former representative of Ife Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Abuja, Hon. Rotimi Makinde has said he shouldn’t be blamed for the electoral defeat he suffered at the 2015 National Assembly elections.
The Nollywood actor turned politician said, “losing 2015 election was beyond my doing.”
According to a statement Makinde made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Monday, Ile-Ife wanted to vote out the progressive party.
He said some powerful and influential politicians in then ruling party also contributed to his electoral downfall.
Nevertheless, the former federal lawmaker expressed hope of coasting to victory at the next year general election as he prepares to recontest the constituency seat at the lower chamber.
He said he now has better political experience and wherewithal to wrestle power with any contestant.
The statement reads, “I contested the election under a very severe environment, the opponent was not the main opposition candidate but the choice of the kingdom to vote out the progressive party, coupled with the dominating factors of those political gurus of so much influence in the then ruling party.
“In the heat of the struggle, I remain committed to my party and till now my loyalty to the leadership and my mentor can not be matched. It is wrong for anybody to assume that I have been given an opportunity and eventually lost to the 2015 election misfortune.
“I have been exposed to the National Politics by my very good Party, tested and trusted. I have in my stock the Integrity, capacity and the needed experience to serve as an agent of positive development for my community.
“Today, I am happy to see that none of my Competitors can say any negative thing about my performance or even about being responsible and faithful to my party. This is a great asset and a pedigree that is to work positively for me as I am hopeful to enjoying the benefit of my steadfastness and loyalty.”
