A governorship aspirant under the major opposition party, All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ekiti state, Barrister Kole Ajayi is dead.
He died inside his car while traveling to Lagos.
The 48 year old Ajayi was said to have been killed by heart attack while traveling in his car.
It was gathered that before the politician could be rushed to a nearby hospital, he had given up the ghost.
He was among the gubernatorial aspirants for the last election in the state.
It was learnt that he was on his way to Lagos on EKSU alumni assignment when he got heart-attack and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Meanwhile, an association Ajayi belonged, Ekiti General Assembly (Egbe Omo Ekiti), has described his death as a tragedy of immense proportion.
A statement issued by Prince Toyin Akingbade, the national convener of the forum said the deceased was a disciplined and decent politician.
“I received the news some hours ago, but I delayed the announcement because I was advised that some of her family members were not yet aware.
“Barr. Kole Ajayi was a brilliant,vibrant and patriotic Ekiti man. The last time we spoke was this morning where we discussed on how the Egbe Omo Ekiti forum would be dully represented at the funeral of late Otunba Dele Dada who died early this week.
He was healthy and full of life with plans about the future even as at this morning.
“Information has it that he was on his way to Lagos on EKSU alumni assignment when he got heart-attack, and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
“The passing of ABERE KO LOKUN LUDI is a tragedy of immense proportions because if anyone deserves to live longer, Kole Ajay should be among. He was kind, polite and respectful. A decent politician and disciplined. It is a tragic sense of irony to lose such a person in such circumstances.
May the soul of our own Barr. Kole Ajayi rest in perfect peace,” the statement reads.
Ajayi was a journalist and a lawyer. He is survived by wife, mother and children.
Mourners have thronged his country home in Ekiti as some of his political supporters could not be consoled.
