How Best Can Osun Use Its Myriad Of State-owned Tertiary Institutions: By Sen. Sola Adeyeye (Must Read)

First, Osun should give up its part ownership of Lautech. Second, Osun should strengthen the University of Osun rather than spread its limited resources over two universities, two polytechnics and two colleges of Education all of which have historically been poorly maintained.

Osun needs only one competently administered, financially strong and educationally comprehensive state-owned university. This comprehensive university should take advantage of the existing campuses and facilities of tertiary institutions throughout the state. It should fulfill the statutory mandates (revised as may be necessary) of the existing universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

My suggestions are not cast in stone but the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Education can be based on the current campus of the Ila College of Education. The Faculty of Science could be based in Iree Poytechnic campus.

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology should be based in Esa-Oke Polytechnic campus. The Faculty of Law could be based in Ilesa. The Faculty of Medicine, and the Administrative Headquarters should be based in Osogbo. The Faculty of Agriculture can be cited in Osun West Senatorial district. The campuses at Ifetedo, Okuku etc should be turned into schools of basic education for remedial or vocational programs.

We in Osun have pretended for far too long that we have the resources to run six tertiary institutions.
