The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in its 473rd meeting today resolved to summon Hon. Oluwole Oke, House of Representatives member representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, and six others to a crucial meeting at the party’s national secretariat, on Friday, July 5.
This was contained in a Press statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbodiyan, made available to news men. The statement said Hon. Oluwole Oke, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, Hon. Lynda Ikpeazu, Hon. Anayo Edwin, Hon. Gideon Gwadi, Hon. Toby Okechukwu and Hon. Adekoya Abdul-Majid are to appear before the members of the National Working Committee by 10 am.
The party said the summon is in line with the provisions of Chapter 10 (57)(3) of the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The summon is believed to be as a result of the leadership crisis rocking the PDP caucus in the House of Representatives.
You would recall that the House of Representatives had a rowdy session on Wednesday over the announcement of minority leadership positions.
The incident broke out after Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, ignored a list by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in which Kingsley Chinda was nominated as the Minority Leader of the House.
He rather chose to use another list submitted by lawmakers from all the other opposition parties in the house.
Subsequently, Ndudi Elumelu was announced as the Minority Leader – a situation that led to protests as some aggrieved lawmakers attempted to take the maze.
