No fewer than four states of the federation have public holiday in commemoration of Hijrah 1443AH, AMILOADED reports.
AMILOADED gathered that Osun State Government, Oyo State Government, Kano State Government and Kebbi State Government have declared public holiday for Hijrah.
The Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, in a statement issued and signed by the state Commissioner for Home Affairs ,Hon. Tajudeen Olaniyi Lawal on Friday declared Monday to be observed by workers throughout the state as public holiday in commemoration of Hijrah , 1443 AH.
While congratulating all Muslims and non Muslims in advance on the occasion of this year’s Hijrah, Mr Oyetola enjoined everybody to use the period of the holiday to pray for the growth and development of the State of Osun and Nigeria as a whole.
Also, the Oyo state government has announced Tuesday, Aug. 10, as a public holiday to commemorate the new Islamic year – Hijrah 1443 AH.
This is contained in a circular signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, in Ibadan on Friday.
According to the circular, Governor Seyi Makinde, enjoined Muslims and people of other religions to use the holiday to pray for the peace, unity and growth of the state and the country.
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state also declared Monday, Muharram 1, 1443 AH (September 9, 2021) as work-free day in the State.
A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba explained that the holiday was in commemoration of the new Islamic calendar 1443 AH.
The governor urged workers to use the work-free day to pray for the country to deliver it from the prevailing security challenges.
Ganduje also congratulated Nigerian Muslims on the dawn of the new Islamic year, which calls for thanksgiving and sober reflection.
The statement further enlisted the support and cooperation of the people for the government as it strives hard to better their lot in the face of daunting challenges facing the nation.
In addition, the Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu declared Monday, August 9, 2021, as a public holiday to mark Islamic New Year.
The day falls on Muharram 1, 1443AH, the beginning of a New Year for the Muslim Ummah.
Alhaji Sufyanu Garba-Bena, the Acting Head of Service, announced this in a statement in Birnin-Kebbi on Friday.
“The noble gesture by Bagudu is to enable the Muslim Ummah in the state to join other faithful across the world to mark the commencement of the Islamic New Year.
“This is in line with the tradition of Bagudu’s administration to make such declaration, to commemorate the beginning of the Islamic Calendar.”
