Former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Honourable Adejare Bello has explained that his meeting with Senator Iyiola Omisore was part of efforts aimed at finding a lasting peace to the crisis bedevilling the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
This is contrary to the believe and speculations in some quarters that Bello had gone to seek Omisore’ support on how he could allegedly become a senator in Osun West after the death of his kinsman,Senator Isiaka Adeleke who passed away last week
Omisore and Bello had met last Saturday in Ile-Ife as agreed to by duo at the behest of the former Senate Appropriation Chairman .
Speaking with newsmen to this effect , the erstwhile Speaker said the meeting did not discuss anything related to his ambition rather than how the PDP could be united once again in the state.
Specifically, he said the meeting was held at the instance of Omisore who he claimed, sent a message on whatsapp to him, to that effect.
“On the 22nd April, I got a whatsapp message from His Excellency, Otunba Oyiola Omisore demanding to know if we could meet to discuss the way forward.”
The Ede born politician said since he was for peace, he readily agreed to meet with the former Senator whom he deputised for in the 2014 Governorship Election of the state .
“To tell you the whole thing came from him, Otunba Omisore,he gave me options of either seeing him between 24th-26th April at Abuja or 27th-29th April in Ile- Ife. I chose the latter being Ife.”
The ex-lawmaker said because of this, he met with the former deputy governor in the company of his(Omisore) elder brother as a witness to what transpired.
“I made sure we had a witness to what transpired and fortunately, it was Omisore’s brother that was equally in attendance at the meeting”
“We told ourselves the gospel truth. I told him that God, with PDP as a platform, made us what we are today and that for whatever reason if we allow the present tide to sweep us away, then posterity won’t forgive us.”
Bello who was surprised how the outcome of the meeting has been misinterpreted , insisted that while the parley lasted, nothing like ambition was discussed.
“I was really surprised when I began to see different stories concerning the meeting with Otunba being tied to an ambition.”
Continuing, “We met for over 2 hours and while it lasted, neither did we discuss anything that had to do with any gubernatorial or senatorial ambition nor anything related. Our focus primarily, was on how we would find a lasting solution to some challenges currently facing our party, the PDP, particularly in our state “
He believed it was the the handiwork of some people who he claimed, were bent on making sure the crisis in the party remained unresolved.
Meanwhile, the former lawmaker who maintained that unless the party and its members were united, winning any election might be an herculean task, adding that he remained focused in his pursuit.
