The real reason why seven out of the twenty -three governorship aspirants that have declared interest officially to contest the September 22 governorship election in Osun state under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party withrew from the race has been revealed by Amiloaded.
In a telephone conversation with the chairman of the party, Hon. Soji Adagunodo, he said the aspirants withrew from the race for failing to pay the sum of one million Naira each agreed upon to organise the recently held mega rally in the state.
Adagunodo said that the party had met with all the aspirants and discussed how the mega rally would be properly organised.
At the meeting, according to the party chairman, it was unanimously decided that each aspirant should contribute a million Naira in support of the mega rally.
The party chairman said the party and the aspirants resolved at the meeting that aspirants who failed to pay the sum would withdraw from the race automatically.
He said while some turned up, others could not. Adagunodo further revealed that the party gave the aspirants two weeks ultimatum to pay but they defaulted.
He added that an extra one week was added but Seven of them did not meet up. After the mega rally, Adagunodo disclosed that another meeting was held where the list of the aspirants who did not pay the one million was released.
The sixteen aspirants who were able to pay the one million are levy are Rt. Hon Adejare Bello, Sen Kola Ogunwale, Sen Akinlabi, Sen Bamgbetan, Sen Ademola Adeleke, Akogun Lere Oyewumi, Barr N O. O. Oke (SAN), Barr Kayode Oduoye, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, Dr. Ayoade Adewopo, Alhaji Waliyu Adebayo Oladosu (rovet), Prof Adeolu Durotoye, Oluomo Gbenga Owolabi, Hon Albert Abiodun Adeogun, Dr. Ayoade Adewopo and Dr Akin Ogunbiyi.
The seven aspirants who could not afford the one million are Engr. Ezekiel Adeniji, Hon. Dr. Amidu Tadese, Mr. Tunde Adewinbi, Prof. Remi Aworemi, Mr. Tunde Eso, Samuel Ademola Jeje and Mr. Rasheed Olawale.
The chairman said the aspirants took the decision stating that a governorship candidate should be credible as well as possess financial capacity.
He wondered why someone who aspires to become a governor of a state cannot raise one million within three weeks.
