#EndSarsNow: Uproar On Social Media Over Sowore’s Comment On NANS, Student Leaders

 

There has been an uproar on social media as the publisher of Sahara Reporters and presidential candidate of the in 2019 general elections, Omoyele Sowore berated the leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Students union leaders across all tertiary institutions in the country for allegedly refusing to react on the recent reports of youths harassment and sometimes maiming and killings allegedly by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

 

Speaking on this on his official twitter account, Sowore said: “Nigerian students are some of the worst victims of #SARS but I can’t see them or hear from the SUGs across Nigeria, I don’t want to talk about NANS because that one is federal parastatal! #EndSarsNow #RevolutionNow”

As a result, this has however generated to a lot of mixed reactions from Nigerians and student leaders.

Reacting on Sowore’s comment, the Chairman of NANS Osun, Comrade Agbogunleri Oluwaseun Ghandi said: “At state levels many NANS Comrades have condemned activities of SARS. Someone reported one to me last night and we have been able to resolve the matter.

“Denigrating NANS is hypocritical and sanctimonious. NANS remains a virile bloc to achieve a new Nigeria if properly guided and utilised.

“We the six NANS JCC Chairmen of all the states in southwest will address press conference today. We are going to talk about state of the Nation/Education.”

Also, a social commentator, Solomon Olaoye Spiritdrunk said: “Abi, when comrades are visiting governors/politicians with the news of collecting “brown envelopes”, ERE KINI AJA NBEKUN SE?

“The beautiful ones are not yet born, since the ugly ones refuse to die.

“If you remove almajiris from the leadership of NANS and you put the wealthy, the wealthy would be looking for influence and connection from politicians. Na where una wan take room enter now? Nibo le Fe ba yara Jasi?..”
