Encomium As Federation Of Iwoland Students’ Union Honours Indigenes With Award Of Meritorious Service

The leadership of the Federation of Iwoland Students’ Union (FILSU), National Headquarters, has honoured notable indigenes of the community with awards of meritorious service, AMILOADED reports.

The notable indigenes of the Osun community bagged awards at an event held at Dove Excellent Event Place, Bowen Road, Iwo, Osun State.

Speaking at the event, the FILSU Global President, Adepoju Saheed Adewale, said the awardees have exemplified the trait of persistence, determination, and most importantly patriotism, adding that the award was designed to appreciate and honor their (the awardees) selfless contributions to the growth of Iwoland.

He said, “One of the greatest privileges and the most distinct pleasures of my term as FILSU National President is the duty that I perform today, spearheading and awarding our most sincerest highest Indigenous honor, the Iwoland Indigene of Note Awards.

“This medal is given to those who have risen to pinnacles of achievement in their fields. It’s a recognition of their accomplishments, hard work, and dedication for Iwoland and for humanity. The recipients of this award have touched all our lives with their contributions, strengthening the fabric of our society and improving the quality of our life.

“The men and women that we honor today come from across our land — many from humble beginnings. But they all exemplified the trait of persistence, determination, and most importantly patriotism.

“These men and women never lost sight of their goals, living out their dreams in their adult lives. The award is designed to appreciate and honor their selfless contributions to the growth of our community, and as well inspire the youth of the society that we have the opportunity to climb as high and go as far as our dreams, talent, and energy will take us.”

Adewale further spoke against the engagement of youths in social vices and other anti-communal activities, saying, “It is with a deep sense of responsibility that I challenge you our fathers and mothers present here and others that your almost neglect of students union and youth groups which have aided the dereliction of moral amongst we youths is a crime to the younger generation.

“Is this how you were left unguided? Are you all also a victim of neglect from the then elders? Are all your successes a result of willful thinking without adequate supervision and encouragement from the society? All this are questions I humbly enjoin you to respond to with action.

“To my fellow students and youth in general: “Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives – choice, not chance, determines your destiny.

“It is our duty to learn through the strings and seize this moment to create a revisit-able history for ourselves by inculcating the habit of perseverance, determination, self discipline, and of course learn to be passionately patriotic towards our immediate community and the nation at large,” the FILSU Global President said.

Some of the awardees include Prof. Kayode Alao of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Chief (Mrs) Funmilayo Jabaru, the Iyalaje of Iwoland, Alhaji Liad Tella, the Asiwaju Musulumi of Iwoland, Barrister Gbadegesin Adedeji, the Asiwaju of Iwoland, and General (Rtd) Musibau Adelekan Adeniran, Retired Military General.
