Court Remands Teenager, 4 Others Over Murder Of UNIOSUN Student

An Osun High Court in Osogbo on Tuesday ordered the remand of five persons in an Ilesa prison custody over alleged murder of UNIOSUN student.

The defendants include; Yusuf Kareem ,18, Ayuba Ibrahim ,20, Abdulrofiu Sakariyau,19 , Isiaq Yusuf ,40 ,and Abdulkareen Adeoti ,50.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Kudirat Akano, ordered the remand of the dependants due to the gravity of the capital offense committed.

The State Prosecution Counsel, Dr Bashir Ajibola, told the court that the defendants committed the offense on June 26, at Oke – Baale area, Osogbo.

Ajibola said the suspects indecently interfere with the body of one late Timileyin Sonibare , by cutting his head, hand and other parts of the deceased body.

He said the offence contravened sections 516, 319, 242 and punishable under section 319(1) of the criminal code cap 34 volume 11.laws of Osun State 2002.

Kareem, Ibrahim, Yusuf, and Adeoti pleaded not guilty while only Shakariyau pleaded guilty when the charge was read to them by the court clerk.

Counsels to the defendants , Mr Alayo Abayomi and Mr Kazeem Badmus ,prayed the court to grant their clients who pleaded not guilty bail in most liberal terms.

Justice Akano , overruled the bail application and ordered the defense counsels to come with a formal written addresses for the bail of the fourth and fifth defendants who were earlier granted bail by an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court on self recognition.

She thereby ordered that all the five accused be remanded in Ilesha prison custody till the next date of adjournment on Dec. 15 for hearing.
