The management of the National Youth Service Corps in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State on Saturday reacted to the death of a primary three pupil of Old Mosque Islamiya, identified as Hassan Suleiman.
NYSC said that while it regrets the death of the eight-year-old boy, the reported account of how the death occurred was untrue.
NYSC said, “The attention of the NYSC, Kano State management has been drawn to the death of Hassan Suleiman, which compelled the management to put the records straight.
”While we regret the untimely demise of an eight-year-old boy, Hassan Suleiman, a class 3 pupil of Old mosque Islamiya school, we wish to state categorically that the unfortunate incident happened at around 3:17 p.m. on Thursday 25th October at Bebeji town, Bebeji LGA, Kano State.
”A corps member, Jepthan Peter Makwin ran after the deceased, who came in to pluck fruits from an umbrella tree within the Corpers Lodge. In the process, the boy fell and hit his head on the wall of the entrance of the Lodge.
“He was immediately rushed to the hospital but was subsequently confirmed dead.”
It had been reported that there was a cordial relationship between corp members and the community and that the children were fond of visiting the lodge.
The corps member, Makwin is currently in police custody.
Meanwhile, the state coordinator, Ladan Baba, led his management team on a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.
Also, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, also visited the family with some members of the State Executive Council, Chairman Bebeji LG, Ali Namadi, the Ward Head, Adamu Umar and other elders.
Ganduje commiserated, with the father of the deceased, Mallam Suleiman Aliyu.
He urged the community to accept the incident, as the will of Allah and remain calm, as well as be law-abiding.
