Confusion As Corpse Goes Missing At Mortuary

Drama and confusion ensued at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital, BUTH Mortuary, in Jos on Wednesday, following the disappearance of the remains of one David Adi, aged 33.

David was a native of Nyakala Igbak, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

It all began when the family members of the deceased arrived at the mortuary to pick the body of David for burial.

His body was nowhere to be found after a thorough search, a situation which forced the deceased’s family to lock the main gates of the institution, demanding from the management of the hospital to produce the missing corpse.

The deceased’s brother, Paul Atimbi, said the corpse was deposited last Tuesday and when they arrived at the BUTH mortuary where they deposited his brother’s corpse, they discovered that the corpse wasn’t there anymore.

He said after mounting pressure on the management, it was discovered that the mortuary attendant had incorrectly released the corpse to a different family since Monday and was buried in Mista Ali, a village under Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The situation forced the management of the hospital to locate the body from where it was buried in Mista Ali by the other family, exhumed it and was identified to be the real corpse of David which was handed over to the rightful family.

The Chief Medical Director of BUTH, Professor Stephen Anzaku, explained that the problem was a result of mislabeling of the corpses by the morticians on duty.

The situation has been resolved and normalcy restored.
