The Chief Imam of Offa, Sheik Muideen Muhammad has commended the intervention of Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s administration in education in the state of Osun, just as he called on the future successor of the governor to strive to continue the good work.
According to Sheik Muhammad, the development of education in Osun was incontrovertible, saying that Aregbesola has ensured quality and free education for the children of the common people.
He stated this while delivering a lecture at the 3rd Oranmiyan Annual Lecture in Commemoration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s 61st birthday celebration held at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Osogbo.
Sheik Muhammad called on other state governors to emulate Aregbesola’s passion for infrastructure development, maintaining that the best that can happen to Osun is for the state to have another governor that will have the same humanitarian heart of Aregbesola to take over from him.
“Structures which can guarantee a better future for the masses must be put in place, things like education must be taken seriously the way Aregbesola has done in Osun, this is one of the ways the masses can benefit from democracy.
“My prayer for Osun is to have a worthy successor to Aregbesola, someone who will have the same humanitarian spirit and that will be ready to continue the good works of the outgoing governor and even better it”, he said.
Speaking on the topic: ‘Leadership, Stewardship & Transiency: Islamic Perspective’, Sheik Muhammad urged political office holders to be mindful of the fact that they got into the political offices through the vote of the masses, urging them to always put smiles on the faces of the common people.
He said: “Our leaders need to begin to realise that they are in leadership positions because of the poor, they need to come down to the level of the masses who voted them into power.
In another lecture, the Chief Imam of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Sheik Musibaudeen Orimadegun, advised politicians to always consider the needs of the masses, advising them to concentrate of programmes that will have positive impact on the common people.
Commending the efforts of Aregbesola on infrastructural development, Sheik Orimadegun called on members of the public to pay their taxes, stating that it is the only way they can contribute their quota to societal development.
He said: “Our politicians should endeavour to put in place things that every member of the society will benefit from, and these are social amenities and all that surrounds it for the benefit of mankind.
“Politicians should always remember the masses that voted for them just the way Aregbesola has done in Osun. A look around Osun since Aregbesola came on board shows that he is a masses friendly government.
“The way Aregbesola is ruling is the way it should be, we cannot all be governors, senators, local government chairmen and others, our political leaders should be sensitive to the needs of the masses the way the Osun governor is.”
Earlier, Mr Niyi Aluko, the Coordinator of the Oranmiyan Group said the Ramadan lecture was to celebrate the 61st birthday of Gov. Rauf Aregbesola who happens to be the founder and mentor of the Oranmiyan Group worldwide.
Aluko said Aregbesola was worth celebrating because he had transformed Osun in his seven and half years as governor , praying that whoever become the state next governor should continue with the developmental programmes of the Aregbesola’s administration
