The brother of Late Anthony Okechukwu who was widely reportedly to be among the casualties at the Lekki toll gate shooting by officers of the Nigerian army has cleared the air.
AMILOADED reports that several media houses and veteran activists had earlier reported that the deceased died at Lekki toll gate shooting.
A popular Abuja-based activist, Deji Adeyanju has taken to his social media handle and wrote: “Tony, a graduate of business admin, one of the victims of #LekkiMassacre has been laid to rest. Several others still missing and their bodies not found. May his soul rest in peace. #EndSARS”
Also, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore also shared a Facebook post of a user “Sowore Morakinyo” who wrote: “Tony, a graduate of business admin, one of the victims of #LekkiMassacre has been laid to rest. Several others still missing and their bodies not found. May his soul rest in peace. #EndSARS”
However, following several reports, the brother of the late deceased in a video said Anthony Okechukwu died on 20th October in a motorcycle accident on his way home and was not a victim of the Lekki shooting.
He also said the woman who claimed to be Tony’s mother is not their mother but their mother’s sister.
AMILOADED recalls that some Nigerians have also debunked the rumour.
A Facebook user identified as Pretty Loveth wrote: “He didn’t die at Lekki tollgate, him (he) and his two friends bumped into a trailer on their way home at Petrocam Filling Station, close to Lagos Business School, Ajah. RIP Tony, we all miss you brother.”
Another Twitter user Ijaw Philosopher also corroborated Loveth’s story, writing:
“Tony Umeh was among the three people that had an accident on their way back from the protest before the toll gate incident, so why is this London woman alleged to be his mother claiming he was killed by the military? I felt something was off about her and you guys rained insults.”
