[BREAKING] Islamic New Year: Sultan Declares Tuesday 1st Day Of Muharram 1443 AH

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Tuesday, 10th of August, 2021 as the first day of Muharram 1443AH.

He made the declaration in a statement issued on Sunday in Sokoto by Arc. Zubairu Haruna Usman-Ugwu, the Director of Administration.

AMILOADED reports that the declaration of the moon will usher in the Islamic New Year.

AMILOADED also reports that the first month, Muharram, is one of the four sacred months mentioned in the Holy Quran.

The other months are the seventh month, Rajab, the 11th month, Dhu al-Qi’dah and the 12th month, Dhu al-Hijjah.

“His Eminence, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, the President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, after considering the report of the National Moon Sighting Committee, has declared Tuesday, 10th of August, 2021 as the 1st day of Muharram, 1443 AH. His Eminence, the President General wishes all Muslims a happy new Hijri year.”
