A member representing North Central Constituency of Niger State in the House of Representatives, Hon Umaru Mohammed BAGO has, again, made it clear that his bid for the speakership of the lower chamber was not in defiant or rebellious ground but a need to entrench fairness and justice in the distribution of juicy political offices.
The lawmaker, in a statement he issued and made available to journalists on Monday, reemphasised that north central came third at the recent presidential election, and so should be considered for the speakership of the 9th Assembly.
BAGO insisted that he has all that bit takes to be the Speaker of the House of representatives.
He said, “Nobody has monopoly of loyalty, neither is it anyone’s exclusive preserve nor anyone the sole custodian, the pursuit of fairness and equity in an enterprise where we are all stakeholders cannot vitiate my long standing; earned reputation of a loyalist to our President, Party and above all my People who invested their trust in me to represent them, and that I am committed to do.
“Otherwise, I will be most unworthy; unfit and a traitor. What I am doing is walking the path of honour; I want to be able to go home and not afraid to face those who sent me to national assembly and save my name and generation from eternal condemnation.”
“Now speaking factually, our majority leader came from the legacy party ACN into APC, I came from legacy party CPC, he has never left the party, I have never too, he is a ranking member, I am too, as minority and majority leader I was one of the platoon commanders, the point of divergence is basically how we see justice.
“South West geopolitical zone has Vice President, North Central has nothing, Deputy Speaker is not commensurate with the steady support for APC/President Buhari, our margin of victory in Niger state alone is more than that of the entire south west zone.
“If it were the other way round, I am sure Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila will be doing for south west what I am doing for North Central. Its about justice, its not defiance, its not rebellion.”
