Shop owners at Ayegbaju International market in Osogbo trooped out on Wednesday to protest what they described as fraud on the side of the state government and the developer of the said market.
Allegations of breach of contract and connivance of fraudulent transactions between the state government and Edward Management company, the developer of the market.
One of the grouse of the protesters who were confined to the premises of the market by security agencies bordered on the earlier agreement of outright purchase of the lock up shops provided, osun state government later reneged in this agreement and reduced the sales to ninety nine years lease which later reduced to 28 years with monthly payment of 2,500 naira by the shop owener.
Documents provided by the protesters showed the agreement signed by them and the developer stating outright purchase of the lock up shop.
Fraudulent service charge and systematic depopulation of the market by government policies were also brought up by the protesters as they chant protesting songs defying the order of the state government not to protest.
Representative of the state government and Director General of Osun State investemtn Company Bola Oyebamiji says the government is looking into the matter and will take appropriate action in stemming the cause of the protest.
