Aregbesola Made Osun Most Backward State In Southwest – Adagunodo

A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun state, Hon. Olasoji Adagunodo has explained how and where the state Governor Rauf Aregbesola got it wrong in his 7 years administration saying that Osun is now most backward in Southwest due to the high indebtedness and retrogression experienced since the inception of the governor.

According to a statement made available to Amiloaded correspondent, Adagunodo said, neither himself nor the opposition party maligned Aregbesola’s style of administration but the PDP and other stakeholders in the state, politicians, the entire citizenry and the civil society organizations,  pensioners, civil servants, market women and men, students and virtually everybody are not happy with the governance style of the governor.

Taking a critical look at the insinuations emanating from the speech of Aregbesola at the celebration of the investiture of the Doctorate Degree of the former CPS to Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former governor of Osun State, Dr. Lasisi Olagunju on Sunday at AENON Hotels and Suites, Osogbo, Adagunodo said Aregbesola got IY wrong when he started incurring heavy debt and embarking on elephant projects in the state.

“Unfortunately, each time questions were asked, instead of giving them answers, our Governor prefers to propound another theory of future hopes but all those theories have always remained mirage, wishful thinking mere academic exercise and they don’t translate into physical solution to any problem for the past seven years,” he said.

“It was Ogbeni who actually got it wrong because in Osun, our people rely on promises and they listen to rhetorics, especially if it was coming from politicians who claim to have affiliations with their political progenitors of the Yorubas like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Bola Ige, Chief Abraham Adesanya, all of blessed memories and others.

” It is no longer news that Ogbeni rode to political stardom in Osun on the back of the legacies of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and and the identity of the late Cisero of Esa-Oke, the late Chief Ajibola Ige.

“Their names dropping of these political giants of Oduduwa descendants was a well calculated strategy by the Action Congress, AC propaganda machinery that ushered in Ogbeni Aregbesola as Osun governor via a protracted legal battle that raged on for about three and a half years which finally relinquished power to the Lagos – based political technocrats.  Hardly did Ogbeni settle down in Osun that he started manifesting his penchant for heavy debts, backed by theories of elephant projects that usually ended up being abandoned.

“The governor admitted on Sunday the fact that his administration has been constructing roads at well over #1billion per kilometer in Osun State, a price which is unlikely that the Federal government can even claim on the pure concrete road constructions that is ongoing on the Fourth Mainland bridge in Lagos that is linking Ikoyi, Ajah with Ikorodu in Lagos State.”

“It is terribly shameful to discover that it has been the same Abere-Olaiya-Okefia, Old Garage, Ikirun road axis that Ogbeni has been budgeting billions of Naira annually to repair and redress at every festive periods of New Year/Xmas, Ramadan/Eidel Fitri, Esther, Odun Isese, Osun Osogbo festival celebrations etc, as if there are no other roads calling for urgent attention in the state that have remained permanently abandoned like Okinni/Ilobu/Erin/Ogbomoso road since 2011″ that he has become the governor of Osun State.”

Adagunodo however, reminded Ogbeni that there are other APC governors that surround Osun State and people are witnessing their Urban Renewal Projects, lamenting that Osun remains the most backward of all the states being governed by APC in the south west region and also the most indebted state in both local and foreign debts with nothing to show for those debts that remains an exclusive information only to the governor in the entire state.

“Ogbeni maintained the highest level of secrecy about the true position of Osun State debt profile till date because there is no single member of his administration that can beat his chest and say the true position of Osun debt.

“If truly Ogbeni is charging this exorbitant price per kilometer in Osun and he promised it would last for sixty years, we feel he is not saying the obvious if he has to repair he major road every year for the past 7 years of his regime.”

Adagunodo said the maladministration of Ogbeni is the cause of agitation and critical questions of sordid jobs being carried out by his Lagos based contractors who promised quality jobs but have failed woefully as evident in their annual repairs and quick delapidation of the roads.
