A chieftain of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Osun State, Abdulganiyu Omipidan, has called on the youth in the state to ensure total eradication of “godfatherism in politics, which makes leaders responsible to only selected few”, AMILOADED reports.
Omipidan, who has been said to contest for Osun Central Senatorial seat in 2023, spoke in Ila, his country home, shortly after he joined the Young Progressives Party.
Omipidan, who vowwed to effect cultural change among his people and introduced empowerment initiatives that would improve standard of living, said godfatherism has denied the populace the real dividends of democracy.
He said, “Leaders are not fulfilling their promises because of godfatherism. Those that have invested resources into making a leader will have his attention before the general populace that he represents.
“Nigeria must discard this idea. Youth must work to end it. It should not be. Let political leaders work with people and provide for their needs and not for few leaders. My coming to run on the platform synonymous with the youth is an indication that I have plans for them.”
