Protest Hits Osogbo As Police Officer Allegedly Fires Okada Rider (See Photos)

There was a pandemonium in Osogbo, the capital of Osun state when a police officer allegedly shot a middle aged man, identified as Saheed Olabomi in Osogbo.

According to eyewitnesses, the policeman allegedly shot the commercial motorcyclist (Okada) around Oke Onitea Osogbo for trying to overtake their vehicle and just drove away.

AMILOADED gathered that from eyewitnesses that a team of policemen who are men of the Police Mobile Force also shot at a Toyota Camry on Monday because it had no registration number.

As a result of the development, other commercial motorcyclists have been protesting the death of their colleague by blocking the Lameco/Stadium Axis of the Ring Road.

They are also burning tyres at the Isahudeen Junction and blocking the major road and cars are turning away from the scene of the demonstration and seeking alternative routes.

He was rushed to Osun State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, father of the victim, Adewale Oyedele, explained that he was told about the development by a passersby.

According to an eyewitness, Mr. Mustapha Asiru revealed that the incident started with a crisis between the police officers and some tipper drivers, explaining that the crisis got to its climax when policemen started shooting sporadically. He explained that Olabomi was shot during the drama.

“What happened was that police officers and some drivers were fighting and the officers started shooting.

“In fact after shooting him, there was a traffic jam at the area but the police destroyed some facilities and reversed to make their way.

“Saheed was hit on his cheek and was on the floor for several minutes before we brought him to LAUTECH (UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital)”

“May God make him survive the shot”.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer of the Osun State command, Yemisi Opalola said: The man is not dead yet as widely reported. He is responding to treatment. We will get back to you for full update.”
