The Network of Non-Governmental Organizations in Osun State (NETNOS) has on Tuesday inaugurated the new executive members of the association, AMILOADED reports.
The held was held at Anglican Bishop’s Court, Isale- Aro in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
In her keynote address, the State Commissioner for Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs, Barr. Olubukola Olaboopo, shared her delight in identifying with NETNOS on the special occasion.
Olaboopo, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Pharmacist Omolara Ajayi, said, “NGOS play a critical role in developing society, improving communities and promoting citizen participation. Notably, NGOs are better placed to penetrate the rural communities with a view to engaging them in participatory development process while maintaining institutional independence and political neutrality.
“To this intent, the essence of collaboration of Civil Society Organizations with government for effective delivery of social Welfare services and other developmental programmes cannot be over emphasized.”
She further criticised organisations which hide under the guise of NGOs to perpetuate evil saying “It is highly unfortunate that many unscrupulous humans hide under the pretense of operating an NGO to perpetrate their evil ulterior motives.
“A typical example of such is presentation of false claims on activities carried out to extort resources from foreign donors local donors for self-aggrandisement in pursuit of a selfish ambition.
“The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs saddled with the responsibility of monitoring and supervising the activities of NGOS whose priority thematic area is on the welfare and rights of women and children, will not shy away from applying sanctions on erring NGOs.”
The Commissioner implored the executives of NETNOS to cooperate with the Osun State Government to ensure standard practice by all coordinators of viable NGOs in the state.
On his part, the NETNOS President, Comrade Olusesi Ebofin, commended the old executives on their achievement within their two-year tenure in power.
Ebofin said, “On behalf of the new executive members, I assure you that we shall perform our roles and responsibilities as expected of us without prejudices. We’ll unify a network and share laudable principles that will ensure good governance and we’ll have a better collaboration with key stakeholders in the state.”
He, therefore, applauded the administration Gboyega Oyetola for implementing various projects aimed at enhancing the fullness of life of people especially of the poor since he came on board in 2018.
Also speaking, the State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu, enjoined NETNOS to collaborate with NUJ in order to enhance information dissemination to create awareness to the masses.
The new executive members of NETNOS include the President, Comrade Michal Olusesi Ebofin; Vice President, Ogunniyi Jadesola; Secretary, Rev. Olaniran Babatunde; Financial Secretary, Ogunrinde Ejibimpe Olufunmilayo, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Rev. Gabriel Abimbola Oso; Treasurer, Evangelist (Mrs) Ogundele Victoria Omolara; and Assistant General Secretary, Ajala Adetunji David.
Some of the dignitaries at the event are Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Strategic communication, Mr Charles Adeyemi; NUJ Osun State Chairman, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu; Director Development Cooperation Ministry of Budget Economic Planning and Development, Mr Gbadebo Iyanda; HOD voters education and publicity, Mr Lucky Balogun; National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Person(NAPTIP) Zonal Commander, Mr Saadu Mustafa; among others.
