Today marks exactly 24years when *Chief Mashood Kashimawo Abiola, the martyr of our present democracy died.
*Chief Moshood Abiola is widely regarded as the winner of the presidential election of June 12, 1993 even though it was annulled by the maximum ruler, Ibrahim Babangida. But, the incident has been regarded as the event that birthed the current democracy in Nigeria. However, 24 years after the election and 19 years after Abiola’s death, the country has yet to record meaningful democratic gains.
Kindly recollect that some issues relating to hardship faced by Nigerians were addressed in his manifestoes as well as the popular jingle make use of then which was “MKOOOO is our man oooooo, No food! No light! No Road! No School! No Job!”
Coming to our state, 24years after the demise of Abiola, the situation has become worse and critical. The state of our roads is very bad, consider this roads for objective consideration;
*1- Iwo – Bode Osi – Ejigbo Road
*2- Ejigbo – Ara – Ede – Akoda Road
*3- Ejigbo – Iragberi – Awo Road
*4- Iwo – Osogbo Road
*5- Iwo – Ogbaagba – Awo Road
*6- Iwo – Ife Odan Road
*7- Iwo – Ile-Ogbo – Gbongan Road
*8- Iwo – Oluponna – Ikire Road among others.
All these roads are all in Osun West Senatorial district and have been abandoned in the last 7years of Aregbesola APC’s regime. Simply put, all these roads have been abandoned, it took the intervention of Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi (Oluwo of Iwoland) to re-open the abandoned *Iwo – Osogbo road recently.
Some township roads constructed were executed with high interest bank loans inflicted on local governments, the repayment schedule of which had crippled the activities of local government administration in Osun State to the detriment of masses.
*The execution of these roads contracts were awarded to ‘Lagosians’ at the detriment of Osun contractors. This has affected the socio-economic life of the people in no small measure, and this negate the idea of industrialization of our martyr of democracy Chief Moshood Abiola who believed empowering his citizens through such award of contract will have a positive spiral effect in economic development of the state.*
*This APC/Aregbesola government in Osun has failed, where is the “Ona Baba Ona” they so claimed?*
May the gentle soul of our martyr of democracy continue to rest in perfect peace.
