Osun has recorded only four cases of the coronavirus infection in 24 hours, according to the daily update by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 1,474, while 322 asks are currently active.
Osun’s four cases was part of the 864 new cases reported from 24 states, excluding Lagos, on Thursday.
The breakdown of other states’ tally include: FCT (129), Anambra (87), Rivers (82), Benue (80), Oyo (76), Plateau (61), Kaduna (54), Delta (51), Nasarawa (38), Kwara (36), Edo (32), Katsina (26), Kano (24), Taraba (18), Ogun (14), Sokoto (11), Gombe (10), Jigawa (7), Akwa Ibom (6), Cross River (6), Zamfara (5), Bauchi (5), and Ekiti (2).
The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode, in a statement, said the record of a single digit in 24 hours was an encouraging development.
According to her: “It shows that our people have become more aware of how deadly the second wave can be, though compliance is not total yet.
“The single digit is encouraging but the goal for the government is that the State is rid of the spread of the infection.
“We are calling on citizens to continue to cooperate with the government by complying with the non-pharmaceutical safety protocols released by the government to manage the second wave.
“We should also be reminded that the President has signed the Coronavirus Disease Health Protection 2021 which makes the use of face masks in public places mandatory. So, the use of face masks is no longer an advisory protocol, but now a matter of the law”, Egbemode said.
