The residents of Erin Ijesa, Erin Oke, Erinmo-Ijesa, Omo Ijesa and Iwaraja in Oriade Local Government area of Osun State have called on security operatives to move against the release of suspected gunmen who were earlier arrested by the state police command.
The outcry was coming on the heels of the purported arrest of an alleged criminal, Oluwole Oguntomilola aka Jombo.
The communities had earlier appealed to the Osun State Police Command to protect them from the notorious criminal who had been arrested several times for criminal activities and illegal possession of firearms.
The residents of Ijesa communities alleged that Jombo, who the late Olapade Agoro illegally installed as a chief of a non-existence throne/town, was using the confined title to sell plots of land in various communities without authorization.
The people added that they were always amazed at the release of Jombo after his arrest by the police.
We however, gathered that he was arraigned in court and remanded in prison custody in March 2014 after been caught with a rifle.
It would be recalled that disturbing and pathetic stories of kidnappers had been a regular occurrence in the area.
The latest was on last Sunday night when some suspected gunmen abducted travellers along Omo/Erin-Ijesa road.
Seven of the abductors were earlier arrested by the vigilante group, members of Oodua Progressive Congress (OPC), hunters and JTF officers comprising of Policemen, Officers of the State Security Services and the Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps who invaded the forest where the evil perpetrators took their kidnapped victims to.
Informed sources from the security circle hinted that ‘Jombo’ was among the arrested abductors.
