Osun Govt Gives New Update On Teachers Recruitment

The State Government of Osun has reacted to viral reports that the forthcoming teachers recruitment exercise has been skewed in favour of Oyes Cadets who have served between 2011 and 2020.

In a reaction to a purported circular going around asking for the particulars of Oyes Cadets concerning the recruitment, the State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Folorunsho Oladoyin has asked members of the public to disregard such information.

He said the recruitment of teachers into public schools is not something that will be handled with the sentiment that some people have served as Oyes Cadets and should get automatic employment, but based on Merit.

The Commissioner assured prospective candidates that the recruitment exercise which will commence soon will be handled by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) who will be in charge of conducting the examination and rigorous interviews will be conducted afterwards by competent panels to get the best teachers for public schools in the state.

“I want to assure prospective candidates who have obtained the recruitment forms to disregard the rumour going around that the recruitment will be done in a way to favour Oyes Cadets who are serving or have served in the past.

“It is still an exercise that will be done based on merit, nobody is planning to do it in a way that will help only Oyes Cadets to get the appointments. They too will partake in the exam which will be conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, nobody can influence anything.

“We can never afford to make the same mistakes of the past, we want the best of the best as teachers to teach our children, how can we now think of such move as being peddled around. Governor Adegboyega Oyetola will never agree to that.

“I want to assure all prospective candidates that the recruitment exercise will be conducted soon, we are only being hampered by this second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are preparing and watching the trend, as soon as it abates the recruitment process will commence”, he said.

  1. But how soon would the”soon” be? Enough of manipulating people. Of course, the work of governance is undoubtedly tedious but that’s why there are ministries. To now hinge the delay in conducting the recruitment on second wave of covid-19 is a deception and insincerity which tantamount to playing on people’s intelligence. What were you doing before now? Of course, you would say, ‘first wave of covid-19’ was around. But was it not in it that WAEC, NECO, TRCN conducted their exams? Was is not in it that the State owned High Institutions ran their academic programs, UNIOSUN for example? So waiting till now that second wave of covid-19 now become a factor?
I believe you should know that there are people who would have collected loan to purchase the #3,000 naira form. For the government to now fix such money with bank(s)? is an act of insecurity and wickedness of high magnitude. But I may be proven wrong that the money is not fixed but just within the government’s disposal, then I will say that the government has wasted resources because the value of the amount then is not the same with the current economy. And, the government would have left the people be till when it would be ready to do the needful. On the other hand, if it’s the government using the acrued money from purchasing of the forms, and the main reason for the selling of the forms has not been achieved due to the government’s failure to conduct the recruitment, then it is a misappropriation.
So, to me, like to any reasonable person, the excuse of the government on the second wave of covid-19 is flimsy and too cheap for public consumption. Let the government be sincere and do the needful. God bless you.
