The body of Late Senator Adebayo Salami who died on January 7, 2021 will arrive from United States Of America to Nigeria for burial today, Source close to the Family told AMILOADED.
The source told our correspondent that an ambulance will covey the body on Sunday morning to Osogbo for immediate burial.
Salami, an indigene of Osogbo, who travelled to the United States along with his wife, Alhaja Shade months ago, had actually planned to return to Nigeria today ahead of his 70th birthday on 20th January.
The late Salami , an indigene of Osogbo , has been a popular politician in Osun state since it was created in 1991.
He entered the gubernatorial race in 1991 and sought to be the first civilian governor of the state in 1992.
The deceased , who was the National Republican Convention, NRC candidate could not however have his dream materialized as he lost to the Social Democratic Party , SDP candidate; Senator Isiaka Adeleke at the 1992 gubernatorial election.
Adeleke, who died on 23 April 2017 had under his belt, a unique achievement; he became the first civilian governor of Osun state at the age of 36.
Nothing daunted, Salami remained in politics and he was until his death on Thursday, one of the powerful and influential politicians in the state.
Ahead of the 1999 general election, Salami who again entered the governorship race was however asked to pick the senatorial ticket by leaders of the Alliance for Democracy, AD, which he did.
He represented Osun Central in the senate between 1999 and 2003. Late Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa and Senator Sunday Fajinmi also represented Osun East and Osun West respectively during same period.
