Condolences have continued to pour in on social media as the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has lost his younger brother, Abdulkadir Jelil Abubakar III who died after a protracted illness.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor of Sokoto state, Malam Muhammad Bello, said Jeli-Abubakar died on Thursday evening at aged 64 after a protracted illness.
Jeli-Abubakar who was the son of the late Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar II, and younger brother to the present Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar was a former counsellor of the Sultanate Council in Sokoto.
Muhammad Bello said the deceased has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
He said Governor Tambuwal described the death as a great loss to the state and nation at large in recognition of his contributions to society.

Buhari’s condolence message was contained in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, titled ‘President Buhari condoles with Sultan of Sokoto over brother’s demise, sympathises also with Sokoto Gov. Tambuwal’.
The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his condolence over the death of Alhaji Abdulkadir Jeli Abubakar, Dikkon Sokoto, the Commissioner of Home Affairs in Sokoto State and younger brother of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.
“In a condolence message to the Sultan on Friday, the President said: ‘I have received with great shock and profound sadness the death of your younger brother, Alhaji Jeli Abubakar. As he answered the call of his creator, may God forgive his shortcomings and reward his good deeds with aljanna. May Allah comfort you over this incalculable loss of your dear brother.’
“President Buhari also condoled with the family of the deceased as well as the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal for losing someone dear to all of them.”
At the wake of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s administration, Andulkadir Jeli Abubakar 111 was appointed information Commissioner, a position he held until recently when he was redeployed to the State Ministry of Home Affairs.
Until his death, Jeli Abubakar holds the traditional title of Dikkon Sokoto.
He was survived by two wives, several children, and grandchildren.
He attended Sultan Ward Primary School and Nagarta College all in Sokoto state before proceeding to the Institute of Journalism in the United Kingdom.
On his return, he published the now rested Galaxy Magazine around 1985 before becoming the Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA) and later left for UNICEF as Communication officer where he served in Bauchi and Kano states before his appointment as Commissioner of Information and later Home Affairs in Sokoto.
