Eight Men In Court For Attacking Osun Monarch, Damaging Properties

 

The operatives of Police in Osun on Monday dragged eight men before an Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo for attacking a traditional ruler in the state and his chiefs.

The accused persons are Akeem Okeowo, aged 30, Hammed Raifu 34, Lakin Oyetade, 35, Okeowo Saheed 29, Ibrahim Musiliu, Ahmed Sunmonu 25, Kazeem Kamorudeen 18, and Kolawole Opeyemi 23.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun disclosed that the accused persons committed the offence October 26, 2020.

The Police Prosecutor told the court that the accused persons did willfully and unlawfully break and enter into the palace of Akire of Ikire, Oba Olatunde Falabi at about 10:00am in Ikire.

Olusegun added that the eight persons did unlawfully assemble themselves and maliciously commit felony.

The prosecutor said the accused persons damaged one Toyota Carrina car with Reg. No. AE 451 XXY property of the monarch and one Mazda car, property of Chief Falana Muritala.

He alleged further that the eight persons armed themselves with intent to carry out some common purpose and felony.

The offence committed, according to the police is contrary to and punishable under section 516,414,70 and 451 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun state 2002

When the count charges were read to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty.

Defence Counsel, M.O Oyeyinka applied that the case should be transferred to Magistrate court Ikire.

While ruling, Magistrate Modupe Awodele ordered the remand of the accused persons in Ile-Ife correctional center

She ordered the police to refer the duplicate case file to the Directorate of public prosecution for advice.

Awodele transfered the case to Ikire Magistrate’s court for mention on December 21,2002
