The Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo on Tuesday remanded two suspected armed robbers, Chukwu Pascar Okere (38), George Samuel (30) to Ilesha correctional centre over alleged robbery.
According to the charge sheet copied of which was obtained by our correspondent, it was gathered that the two suspects committed the offences on 21st March, 2020 at about 2:00pm, at Royal Spring Hotel Osogbo, Osun State.
“Chukwu Pascar Okere (38), George Samuel (30) at large, was said to have armed themselves with guns and other dangerous weapons and tied down the security guards attached to Royal Spring Hotel Osogbo, broke in to the Wema Bank Plc ATM machine house and carted away some of six million, six hundred and sixty seven thousand naira (#6,667,000:00k),” the charge sheet reads partly.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Taiwo who was holding the brief of Inspector Ilaisha Olusegun argued that the offence was punishable under section (1)(2)(a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provision) Act Cap RII Vol. 14 Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
He also accused the suspects for arming themselves with guns and other dangerous weapons and robbed one Gbolahan Adegbite of his Tecno W4 mobile phone.
He revealed that the offence was contrary to section (1)(2)(a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provision) Act Cap RII Vol. 14 Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
When the four count charges were read to the suspects, they pleaded not guilty to the offences.
Our correspondent gathered that Mr Tunbosun Oladipupo, was the defense counsel that stood for the first accused person while Mr Abimbola Ige was the defense counsel that stood for the second accused person said.
The defendant of the second accused person, raised an issue of conspiracy that was brought against the second accused person and urged the court to order the substitution of the charge against him.
While ruling, the Magistrate, Abayomi Ajala, admitted the substitution of the charge against the second accused person and thereby remanded the accused persons at Ilesha correctional centre pending the date of adjournment.
The Magistrate, however, adjourned the case till 25th July 2020 for mentioning.
