There was a serious pandemonium in Ede, Osun State on Friday evening when a driver identified as Sheriff drowned in Osun River while trying to bath at the bank of the river.
It was learnt that the deceased was at the river bank after his team and himself had removed their truck that was struck due to the bad state of the road while going to offload the content of the vehicle.
Our correspondent gathered that the deceased and his fellow loaders, after successfully removed the struck truck and delivered the content, stopped at the bank of Osun River to clean up when the incident occurred.
According to an eyewitness who preferred anonymity said the deceased on getting to the bank of Osun river slipped off the river bank and got drown immediately.
“He had not started bathing. He was about to bend and start bathing when he slipped and fell into the river,” the witness said.
The eyewitness added that people at the scene, immediately the incident happened made effort to save Sheriff, but till Saturday afternoon, the body had not been recovered.
As at the time of filling this report, efforts by the people and his team to save his life proved abortive as his body was yet to be recovered from the river.
Friends, members of Tipper Owners Association, residents and others had since been in mournful mood as they keep searching for his body on Saturday.
Further findings revealed that men of the State Fire Service and traditional drivers have been contacted to search for his body.
However, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident.
She said rescue team had been raised both by the family, police and fire service in search of the body of the driver.
